LIVE MUSIC – Benjamin Langdon

From the forests of eastern Melbourne comes Grand Baxter, an alt-folk artist combining earnest songwriting, dense textures of guitar and strings, and a humble folk charm. Inspired by Jason Isbell, John Moreland and Gillian Welch, Grand Baxter exists at the intersection of rock, folk and country.

With accolades including Folk Alliance’s Young Folk Artist of the Year award, performances at Port Fairy Folk Festival and National Folk Festival, and support slots with Thirsty Merc and Didirri, Grand Baxter have firmly planted themselves as regulars of the folk circuit.

Their new EP Silverline is a collection of seven songs searching for hope and love in a harsh and unpredictable world, ranging from bounding indie-folk to delicate acoustic tracks, all written by singer-songwriter Benjamin Langdon in the tumultuous years between 2019 and 2022. These songs read like a journal of the songwriter’s state of mind during that time, touching on themes of difficult family dynamics, loneliness, and the search for love in all its forms.
